Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) String Quartet No. 9 in E-flat major, Op. 117, (1964). Since the latter part of the 20th century following his death in 1975, the string quartet cycle of Dmitri Shostakovich has come to be regarded as extraordinarily significant.
Dmitri lived in Saint Petersburg. Dmitri passed away on August 9 1975, at age 68 in Moscow. Dmitri Shostakovich was awarded ‘honorable mention’ at the First International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in 1927 at Warsaw. In 1966 Shostakovich was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society’s, Gold Medal. Death and Legacy. Dmitri Shostakovich died of lung cancer on 9 August 1975. A civic funeral was held.
